The Creation of my digipack

When creating our band portfolio we wanted to portray our band as girls, fantasy and fun. During the pop video we incorporated many more elements such as giving the girls an ethereal feeling by dressing the two girls in white dresses and but using lots of multicolour lights creating a fantasy and dreamy atmosphere.

A Digi pack is the infill’s that the band will put onto their CD to help sell more CDs and attract customers. A Digi pack contains a front CD cover, This is usually very eye catching and typically has a picture of the band or star on. This was what we did with our front cover. We placed a mid shot of the two girls sat close together with pink glowing whispers around the picture in order to frame it. The background of the girls is black but this is not because we wanted them to appear dark and rebellious but to add a mystical element to the cover, it also helped to show the pink whispers more. One element that a Front cover must contain is the band name, usually a key factor that is clearly visible. The Band name I made in indesign, the process took me a long time because I made the letters 3D and they had to fit into each other. I used the same colours that we used within the lighting in the video, in a hope that it would link the two together.

As well as a front cover we had to create middle page for the inside of the CD. This can contain many different things and is all dependants upon the band. It can contain anything from lyrics to a poem and a story. On our shoot day, I took photographs throughout the day; there was one landscape photo that I took that depicts the two girls looking at each other with a keyboard between them. I used this photo for the middle pages of the digi pack. The middle page is supposed to create a feeling or flavour of the band and I felt this picture did this well.

The last page of a digi pack is the back cover of the CD. This contains a list of all the songs on the CD as well as a record label and a barcode for the selling point. I placed a picture of the keyboard covered in fairy lights and feathers on the back of the CD cover because I felt this picture captured the brand image that we were portray and the fantasy element. We also placed a ‘blue note’ logo, which was the recording company for our band. I also found a picture of a barcode and in Photoshop changed it to blue in order to match the other colours on the back page.
