DIY Horror Poster (introduction to photoshop)

After the lesson with Matt on how photoshop works, we were given the assignment of making our own horror poster.
My horror poster mainly depicts a girl being hung to the right hand side of the syntagm; I decided to place this here as it is the second place your eye is drawn to according to the rule of thirds. I wanted the eye to notice the paradigm of the stairs first, because the stairs are dark it makes you focus more on distinguishing them which then leads to curiosity.
The paradigm of the dead girl is a full body shot, I wanted it to be made clear the state that she was in, almost set the scene, but also leave you wanting to know how and why she ended up like that. In addition to that, in post production I added a green tint to the corpse as green gives me the signified of asylums and dark dingy places. Moreover, her top was originally white which would have been juxtaposition to the dark background and would have drawn more attention to her therefore the attention on the stairs would be lost. The clothes that she is wearing suggest that it was not a suicide as she is wearing normal everyday clothes and perhaps not expecting it. Around the corpses neck, I have faded out a a rope, the reason I decided to make the paradigm faint as is it signified spirits and ghosts.
As for the title of the film, I decided that I would place it in the third place that your eye is drawn to, giving you time to take in and analysis the paradigms first before noticing the title. I decided that the title of the film was going to be called “the room”, although the words are not scary it makes you wonder and lead to curiosity of what happens within the room and what is looks like. Furthermore, the film title is lighter than any other paradigm in the syntagm not only does this cause the title to stand out but also is a juxtaposition to the dark paradigms. The typeface of the slogan to me has connotations with a typewriter which to me is the signified of hospitals and asylums.
After photographing the stairs I realised that I had shot them at the wrong angle this meant that I had to a lot of work in the post production, I even had to clone parts of the stairs and reconstruct them in certain places, this left the stairs looking slightly odd, but I like this as it adds to the quirkiness of the horror genre.
